For some, artificial intelligence (AI) still feels like science fiction. For others, it’s already part of everyday work. Yet when AI comes up, we tend to hear more about the risks than the potential benefits.

Assessing risks is important — but it’s just as valuable to explore how AI could positively shape our work lives when thoughtfully integrated into daily routines. So, where do we stand today? And how might AI reshape the workplace if we choose to look through a more optimistic lens?

In a recent episode of our Game Changers podcast, Anna Török, Senior Learning and Development Specialist at Sony Europe, shared her take.

Where We Are Now – AI in the Workplace

AI entered our lives only about two years ago, yet it’s already appearing in most areas of work. A Gallup study last November found that 33% of employees felt their company had begun integrating AI into business practices. Given how new the technology is, that’s a notable figure.

As Anna Török points out, adoption will always vary:

“Some people are developing the skills, but their mindset hasn’t caught up yet — they don’t realize: ‘Hey, I could actually do this with AI.’ And then there are those who’ll always stay under the radar and not use it. But that’s how it is with everything. Some people know how to use Excel. Some don’t. And some manage to go 20 years in a company without ever writing a formula!”

Unlike earlier technologies, AI doesn’t require memorizing commands — it works via natural, language-based prompts. That makes it arguably one of the most user-friendly tools we’ve ever had.

Less Admin, More Value – How AI Supports Us

AI’s real value shows up in everyday workflows — automating admin tasks like sorting emails, scheduling meetings, or managing databases.

If we see AI not as replacing us but relieving us, the question becomes: How can we use that freed-up time for more intentional, value-driven work?

Education and clear guidelines are key. Because AI is trained on human-generated data, it can make mistakes or reflect bias. As Anna Török notes:

“It’s important to feed AI with data that — even if it’s not totally unbiased (because that doesn’t exist, since AI learns from human-made content) — is at least diverse and contains some variation.”

“I think it’ll make work more enjoyable — and give us much more time to focus on what really matters! For example, as managers, we could leave the more monotonous tasks to AI and finally spend most of our time on the well-being and development of our people.”

She highlights three possible shifts:

  • The 4-day workweek becomes realistic – Freed-up time could support shorter weeks, with more balanced, motivated teams.

  • A sustainable work model – More space for family, rest, and learning could ease pressure on the retirement age.

  • Focus on what truly matters – With routine tasks automated, we can prioritise strategy, creativity, and leadership.
