Does Team Development Still Matter in the Age of AI?
Author: Gabriella Bodi, co-founder and CVO of [eureka]
Key takeaway: AI is changing how we work, but not eliminating the need for human connection. Research suggests that organizations achieve better results when AI strengthens collaboration rather than replaces people. As AI adoption grows, skills such as trust-building, collaboration, conflict management and adaptability become even more valuable. |

Why Are People Questioning Team Development in the Age of AI?
I keep hearing different versions of this question lately, often with an underlying fear: “what’s going to happen to us, humans?”
I understand where this is coming from. With mass layoffs happening across industries, people are working in a constant state of uncertainty. It’s easy to focus on the idea that the human side of work is becoming less important.
And if you’re thinking, "It's game over already, companies are replacing everyone with AI anyway,” it’s worth looking at the organizations that have already started walking some of that back.
Are Companies Really Replacing People with AI?
Klarna, for example, after aggressively replacing parts of its customer service operations with AI, started hiring people again because the customer experience simply didn’t deliver the same level of quality. And if you’ve ever been stuck in an endless loop with an AI chatbot until your brain started boiling, you probably know exactly what that means.
Technology can automate tasks. It cannot automate human experience. |

What Does the Research Say About AI, Layoffs and ROI?
Research finding: A recent Gartner study analyzing 350 large companies found that organizations that reduced headcount because of AI did not achieve better ROI than those that avoided aggressive layoffs.
Replacing people with AI does not automatically create better business results.
What Happens When AI Strengthens Collaboration Instead of Replacing It?
The strongest results came from companies that used AI not to replace people, but to strengthen human collaboration.
So maybe people are calling it too early.
In more complex roles built on connection, judgment and collaboration, human presence is still critical.
The best AI strategies augment people. They don’t eliminate them. |

Which Human Skills Become More Valuable in the Age of AI?
At the same time, AI is increasing the value of soft-skills that cannot easily be automated, but can absolutely be developed:
collaboration
conflict management
emotional regulation
Why Is Human Connection Becoming More Important, Not Less?
One thing I’m seeing more and more clearly in my work with teams at [eureka] is that as AI adoption grows, so does the need for real human connection.
The need to occasionally step out of the daily grind, the back-to-back meetings, and create space to understand how the person sitting across from us actually operates as a human being.
What Should Leaders Take Away From This?
AI is changing how work gets done. But the organizations seeing the strongest results are not replacing people with technology. They are using technology to strengthen how people work together.
As AI becomes more capable, the ability to build trust, collaborate and connect meaningfully with others may become even more valuable.
