In business, we often like to think of ourselves as “brains in jars”without bodies: always logical, always making optimal decisions. We all know that’s not true, and science explains why:

80% of information travels subcortically from our bodies to our brains. Only 20% flows from brain to body.

That’s why this approach is so effective! When we change what’s happening in the body, we also change what’s happening in the brain.

Our Autonomic Nervous System is subcortical (below the cortex), which means it cannot understand a cognitive, spoken language.

That’s why we can’t just "think and talk our way out" of how we’re feeling. To shift our dysregulation, we must learn to speak the embodied language of our nervous system, which is somatic in nature.
